The police in Nasarawa State have placed a ban on the sale and use of fireworks in the state.
This was contained in a statement by ASP Ramhan Nansel, Public Relations Officer of the Command, on Friday in Lafia.
Nansel quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adesina Soyemi, as ordering strict enforcement of the ban on the sale and use of fireworks and other explosives.
He said that the ban was aimed at preventing hoodlums from using it as a cover to perpetrate their nefarious activities during the yuletide.
The police boss also urged community leaders, parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against indulging in buying/igniting of fireworks.
Soyemi also warned dealers of the commodity to stop forthwith as anyone caught would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
He urged that personnel must be professional and civil in their relationship with members of the public in the discharge of their duties.
The Police Commissioner also enjoined them to shun acts of corruption and extortion, warning that anyone found wanting would be decisively dealt with.
He also said the police would collaborate with sister security agencies and stakeholders to put in place adequate crime prevention measures before, during and after the festive season.
Soyemi added that the police would deploy personnel to man all the black spots across the state with a view to sending criminal packing.
