A member of the House of Representative representing Apapa Federal Constituency, Hon. Adesola Samuel Adedayo, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, distributed 10kg bags of rice as palliative to 2,740 members of his constituents.
The event which attracted scores of residents from the constituency was held at Tegoe Barracks at Marine Beach, Apapa-Iganmu LCDA.
In his address, Hon. Adedayo said the palliative is aimed at supporting constituents irrespective of their political party or affiliations during this festive period.
Speaking to journalists on the sideline of the events, Hon. Adedayo said, “We are here today in the spirit of the season and it is the time for giving. So, I have come back to my constituency to give them the little I can afford to several people in their thousands cutting across the wards, polling unit, and for the generality of the people of Apapa Federal Constituency.

“We are aware of the difficulty that people are facing all over the world, not just Nigeria alone. And we have decided to do our own quota in this period of Christmas which is symbolic for showing, expressing and giving love.
“So, I’m here to give my people at the constituency at least 10 kg of rice to relieve them of the burden of food scarcity.
“I have not left out the leaders, both traditional and party leaders. The artisans, photographers, the NURTW, and all others have been carried along in this scheme.”
On the basis of selection of the beneficiaries, the lawmaker said, “The method we have adopted is to pick at random 10 people from each 274 polling units in the constituency.
“The selection has nothing to do with being a member of APC or other political party, once you are a voter, you are entitled to it and this cut across all the members of the constituency.”
Responding to the question of other programmes and requests to be fulfilled for the constituents, Hon. Samuel said, “About two weeks ago, we carried out an empowerment; we distributed Keke Napep, Grinding machine, generator, sewing machine, and freezers to the people across the constituency.
“This is done in an attempt to help them practice or establish themselves in their profession or choice of trade.
In their separate remarks at the gathering, an APC chieftain, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, and immediate past APC Chairman in the state, Chief Tunde Balogun, commended Hon. Adedayo for the kind gesture.
Highlighting the tragedy experienced in other parts of the country where palliatives sharing were carried out, the two APC chieftain urged the constituents to be patient and listen to instructions from their leaders to ensure a smooth running of the exercise, averts death from stampede as well as to set an example for other places.
They equally implored the people to observe a minute of silence as respect for everyone that has passed and pray to God to grant them eternal rest.
On their parts, the beneficiaries extend gratitude to the lawmaker for the kind gesture.
