The Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State Prof. Chinedum Babalola, on Thursday called for the inclusion of private universities as beneficiaries of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
Babalola, who made the call while addressing newsmen shortly after the university’s third matriculation ceremony for the 2017/2018 set in Abeokuta, said such support would enhance the quality of higher education in the country.
The vice chancellor identified funding as a major challenge, particularly faced by new private universities.
She noted no single individual could solely fund university education without external support.
Babalola said the support by TETFUND would assist in funding research works in order to make private universities more competitive.
The vice chancellor, who noted that many students are reluctant to seek admission into private universities because of high fees, appealed to the Federal Government to evolve education loan schemes to assist them.
Babalola said that the institution, which was established in 2015, is committed to creating a learning environment that nurtures a sound moral and intellectual culture.
A total of 65 students were formally admitted into the institution at the ceremony.
