His Eminence, Rev. Scamb Chinedum Nwokolo, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, has declared that CAN under his watch will be non-confrontational in relating with the State Government on issues concerning the Christian body and the masses of the state.
He restated his resolve to peacefully collaborate with the government in solving the problems of the church and state.
Nwokolo said this in his address presented to delegates at the Ebonyi State first quarter state CAN Assembly.

The event was held on Thursday in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
Nwokolo said the Association would always harness her instruments across the 13 local government areas of the state in protecting the interest and wellbeing of the church and the entire residents of the state.
He reiterated that he would always employ dialogue and peaceful negotiations in addressing the problems of the church and the people of the state.
Nwokolo stressed: “Our approach towards solving critical problems within the state remains moderate, as we have our instruments in all the 13 LGAs, the length and breadth of the state.
“Let me make it clear at this juncture, that under my watch, we will not be confrontational to the government but shall at all times, and in all situations, maintain a position that protects the interest of the Association and by extension, that of all Christians and good people of Ebonyi State.
“We shall engage all our esteemed church leaders to speak and intervene in all matters that affect the state.
“That can be achieved through dialogue and peace.”
The State church leader, who delivered the report card of his six months stewardship so far, informed delegates that he would formally launch his pet project: “Morality and Peace Advocacy Initiative,” during the observance of his one year in office.
According to him, the project, when kicked off, would facilitate sustainable restoration of ethical values, moral discipline, as well as strengthen peaceful coexistence in the state through massive advocacy, covering all nooks and crannies of the state.
Nwokolo, who frowned at the behaviour of some members of the body who spread false rumours and promote clannish sentiments, urged delegates to always put God first and pursue the unity of the church above personal gains.
He said: “We therefore urge those propagating negative information using channels of indigeneship and non indigeneship, to desist from that henceforth and consult their scripture once more to fully understand the christo-centric message of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ.
“The church is Universal, not ethnocentric; CAN belongs to All Christian in Nigeria, and also the umbrella body of all Christians.”
Some member delegates who spoke at the event, including Bishop Anayo Ilo and Right Rev. Chidi Igwe of the PFN and CCN blocs respectively, urged the chairman to keep up his good works for the CAN in the State and continue to shun all forms of distractions.
Others expressed excitement that Nwokolo has revived the quarterly CAN State Assembly, which they alleged, was not observed for once during the eight years of the immediate past CAN administration in the state.
The assembly featured general prayers and presentation of progress reports from the women and youth wings of CAN, WOWICAN and YOWICAN respectively.
Reports were also received from CAN directorates and local government areas.
