The Nigeria Association of Peace and Gender Practitioners In Media, Plateau State Chapter has been challenged to step up efforts towards effective dissemination of activities of women and their roles in peace and conflict management.
The Gender Technical Adviser on UN Women Project in Nigeria, Sewuese Surma, made this call Tuesday during a one day interactive session in Jos, Plateau State with heads of media establishments.
Surma maintained that the forming of media networks is to aid the activities of UN Women in disseminating to the outside world to enable people know their successes and challenges and solicited the Media Network team to redouble efforts towards the actualization of the dream.
She revealed that since the launching of the action plan on UNSCR 1325, aimed at promoting Women’s Engagement in Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria, the UN Women has make some major breakthrough in Gombe, Plateau and Adamawa States.
She said: “The UN Women has carried out several initiatives to review the state peace architectures from a gender and human but high perspectives.
“We succeeded in getting women involved in decision making at traditional institutions levels, and in partnership with traditional rulers, CSOs, NOA and other organizations, we have secured support from state governors, management of MDAs, security agencies, and community leaders in the targeted areas to review the existing peace architecture.”
Earlier, the Convener of the breakfast meeting and Plateau State Coordinator of Meadia Network, Wika Gofwen, said the meeting was ab avenue for media chief executives to interact with stakeholders on how to help implement workable plans of achieving in Plateau State and the country at large the ideals of the organisation.
Gofwen said the media network that has 31 members, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the National Association of Women Journalists.
