Two security guards were on Friday docked in a Kado Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly causing the loss of office equipment worth over N1million.
The accused, Simon Peter, 22 and Mathew Mallam, 25, police said are of Genesis Security Company Limited, Abuja with negligent conduct.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
The Prosecution Counsel, Fabian Nwaforji, told the court that on August 13, the complainant, Saidu Abdulmumini, of Adamena Crescent Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at Utako Police Station, Abuja.
Nwaforji, alleged that the defendants were posted to Genesis Security Company Limited, as security guards to secure the companies property.
He told the court that the defendants on arrival at the office, formed criminal intentions and abandoned their workplace thereby allowing thieves to gain entrance in to the building.
The prosecution counsel said the thieves stole two outdoor LG air conditioners, one Thermocool deep freezer and 12.5kg gas cylinder all valued at N1, 025,000.
He further alleged that during police interrogation, the defendants could not give a concrete reason for committing the crime.
He said the offence contravened Section 196 of the Penal Code Law.
Charity Samuel, counsel to the defendants, prayed the court to grant bail to the defendants in the most liberal terms, while citing sections 35(4) and 36(5) of the 1999 constitution and sections 158 and 165 of the Administrative Criminal Justice Act 2015.
The defence counsel also said the defendants will not jump bail or interfere in the investigation, adding that they have reliable sureties.
The prosecution counsel, however, did not object to the bail application made by the defence counsel.
The Area Court Judge, Malam Mohammed Wakili, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N150, 000 with a surety each in like sum.
Wakili ordered that the defendants provide a reliable surety, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He added that the sureties must provide a print out of BVN, two recent passport photographs and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court Registrar.
The Judge adjourned the case until October 18, for hearing.
