A 25-year-old technician, Joshua Danladi on Thursday appeared in a Grade I Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly breaking into two provision stores to steal.
The police charged Danladi of Byazhin across in Kubwa, with house breaking and attempted theft.
The prosecution counsel, Babajide Olanipekun told the court that the complainant, Sadiq Bello on behalf of three others, reported the matter at the Byazhin Police Station on September 3.
Olanipekun alleged that the defendant broke into the shops in Byazhin, with intent to steal.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 347 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Taiye Okoya prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, citing Sections 162 and 158 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
Okoya said his client was presumed innocent until proven otherwise and urged the court to exercise its discretion judiciously.
The Judge, Muhammad Adamu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.
Adamu ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until December 2 for hearing.
