The World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo says expanded coverage of antiretroviral therapy has led to a fast decline in HIV/AIDS-related and Tuberculosis cases and deaths.

Information about the pledge is in a statement by Toyin Aderibigbe, the Media Officer, National Agency for Control of AIDS on Tuesday in Abuja.
They made the assertion at a Dinner Forum with Corporate Sector on Mobilising Domestic Resources to End TB in Nigeria in Lagos on Sunday.
The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria on Wednesday says the Global Funds has provided 29 million dollars grant to help fight against Tuberculosis in the country.
The Federal Government and Global Fund has signed a funding support agreement worth $71,216,215 for the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
According to WHO, countries are not doing enough to end tuberculosis by 2030 in spite of global efforts that averted about 54 million TB deaths since 2000.
The UN said: “Despite being curable and treatable, TB kills more than 1.6 million people every year and only about half the cases are diagnosed properly. “The disease also takes an enormous financial toll on economies: it is estimated that TB will cost about one trillion dollars by 2030.”
He stated this at the commissioning of projects at the National Tuberculoses and Leprosy Training Centre, Zaria, Kaduna State.
Dr Stella Agbim, Lead Advocate of the foundation, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja.
She said government should embrace greater innovations and investment in research and development of new antimicrobial medicines, vaccines and diagnostic tools to address the challenge.
“Out of the total number of affected persons, 24 people, representing 2 per cent, defaulted, while the number of death recorded so far represents 6 per cent.”
He said research and trials are ongoing around the world to cut down the treatment period of Drug Resistant TB from 20 months to nine months
The researcher then urged parents to always pay attention to their children and ensure that they visit their physicians regularly and when they suspect any unpleasant health situation
Ujah said ignorance was a major challenge in the effort to eradicate the disease, noting that a lot of people were still unaware of TB, especially those in the rural communities
Chuckwu said the country would henceforth make use of musicians, entertainers in the Nigerian movie industry and other role models in the country’s growing fashion industry to educate people on HIV and AIDS
