The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has congratulated the Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on his victory in the just-concluded gubernatorial election.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, led a joint delegation of Nigeria’s National Assembly on a three-day working visit to the United States recently. This unprecedented visit consisting of members from both chambers of the National Assembly led to discussions of issues of national interest being raised with the US Chamber of Commerce, Council on Foreign Relations, the United States Institute of Peace and select members of the US Congress.
The surveillance, the Red Chamber said, would assist in identifying locations and hideouts of bandits and deal with them decisively.

The motion for the request for Police to furnish the Senate with Service number of policemen deployed for the governorship election was sponsored by Senator Dino Melaye.
This followed last week’s resolution by the Senate to direct its constitutional review committee to put in place the machinery to amend the Constitution to allow for the creation of State Police and the mandate that the Police Reform Bill be passed.

Saraki said this in a statement he personally signed in Abuja on Friday after Supreme Court’s judgment in the asset declaration charges, which went in his favour.
This followed a motion moved through a Point of Order by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa on proliferation of road blocks along South-Eastern roads by armed police and military officers.

To put effect to the resolution, the upper chamber directed its Committee on Constitution Amendment headed by Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, to submit its report within two weeks.
