The association made the call in a communique read by its President, Dr. Kayode Obembe, after a National Executive Council meeting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Sunday

Obembe said the reversal of the suspension of the residency programme would further smoothen the relations with the government
Obembe explained that the suspension was the outcome of the emergency delegates meeting held on Saturday in Abuja
But Obembe said he would not give the exact date and time when the strike would be called off until he reports back to his members since “the meeting with the Senate President is very useful and successful”
Given this situation, the private hospitals have offered succour to families who can afford to pay their often exorbitant charges. The well-off get treated with top-notch medical practices and medicines and the poor Nigerians gets far less or no care at all

This followed appeals by the Federal Government and highly placed individuals for the NMA to call off the strike.
The chairperson also directed the members to proceed on the strike on the day in question, adding the notice had been dispatched to all unions and associations
He said that Nigerians were full of expectations from the various tiers of government in 2014 in the area of improved healthcare services
Ighodaro said that doctors in the state would be called out for an industrial action if the government failed to heed the call
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lateef Ibirogba, who disclosed this on Friday in his office, noted that any industrial action by doctors would bring untold hardship to the people and could result in avoidable deaths of patients who would require their services
