The Team Manager of El Marino Sports Club of Lagos, Anthony Akamagwuna, has advised the Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr, to infuse more local players into the national team, while stressing that talents abound in the Nigerian local league if properly evaluated.
Akamagwuna gave the advice while addressing newsmen shortly after he was returned as Team Manager of the prestigious Lagos sports club, El Marino, during their Annual General Meeting, which held recently in Asaba.
Also elected during the meeting were Charles Igbinidu, Secretary General; Paul Asamota, Deputy Secretary General; Ignatius Njoku, Team Captain; Edirin Yubvovwre, Financial Secretary; Babatunde Adebayo, Welfare Secretary; and Godwin Edomaruse, Deputy Welfare Secretary.
Akamagwuna said: “Although the Super Eagles are doing well at the moment, there is still need for the Nigerian Football Federation and the National Team Coach, Gernot Rohr, to properly access our local league for local players that can be invited to the Super Eagles team.
“I believe that there are talents there who can replace our aging players. What they need is an opportunity to prove themselves and build their confidence.”
Akamagwuna also called for the rejuvenation of the moribund Principals Cup football competition for Secondary Schools explaining that it is a viable platform for the discovery of raw talents and an effective tool for football development in the country.
