The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Wednesday directed the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria to look out for the new moon of Zulki’Ida, 1434 A.H. from September 5.
This directive was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Wali.
The statement also said that Abubakar advised Muslims to report the sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan.
The statement said: “This is to inform Muslim Ummah that Thursday, September 5, 2013, which is equivalent to the 29th day of Shawwal, 1434 A.H. shall be the day to look for the new moon of Zulki’Ida 1434 A.H.
“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Zulki’Ida on Thursday and report its sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan.”
