Suits against PDP national chairman withdrawn

Respite on Thursday came the way of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, as two separate suits seeking his removal from office were withdrawn by the plaintiffs.

The suits were filled at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The plaintiffs, Emmanuel Onu and Ezionye Louis Ndubuisi, through their counsel, Elochukwu Nweke, explained that they were withdrawing the suits in the overriding best interest of the party and “in view of fresh evidence letter, letter and documentation from INEC confirming the validity of the appointment of Mu’azu as acting PDP National Chairman and the ongoing constitutional process by the PDP to ratify all the anomalies we have raised in our suits”.

The aggrieved members had, in their separate suits filled on October 13, 2014 and September 2014, sought the removal of Mu’azu as chairman of PDP.

In their suits, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission and the PDP were named as co-defendants, the plaintiffs faulted the process that produced Mu’azu as national chairman of the party.

They contended that the process was not known to the party’s constitution.

The Eagle Online recalls that Muazu, a former Governor of Bauchi State, emerged as the National Chairman of the PDP in January this year through the ratification of the National Executive Committee of the party, sequel to the resignation of the former occupant of the office, Dr. Bamanga Mohammed Tukur.

However, Nweke (the plaintiffs’ counsel) told journalists in Abuja on Thursday that the plaintiffs have filed different notices of discontinuance of the suits at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

He explained that the court has officially served all the parties, thereby bringing to an end the legal challenge of the appointment of Mu’azu.
