State of emergency: Fasehun gives Jonathan knocks, kudos

Dr. Frederick Fasehun of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress has hailed the declaration of a state of emergency at Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States.
This was even as he maintained that President Goodluck Jonathan should have gone all the way by ousting the chief executives of the states.
Speaking at Okota, Lagos State, Fasehun said it was possible that some of the executives are moles or even sponsoring the insurgency in the North.
Stating that OPC would support any policy, which guarantees the protection of lives and properties, Fasehun added that he was concerned that President Jonathan had been too slow in taking action on the galloping security problems in the country.
Stating that he still could not understand why Jonathan did not sack the executives in the state, Fasehun said that since Jonathan has now bared his fangs, he should keep those fangs permanently bare to serve as warning to other states.
His words: “I was concerned that he was rather slow in taking action, but it is better late than never! And the little he had done now will be a warning to some other areas.
“Now that he has shown his fangs, he should be prepared to keep those fangs permanently in place. I don’t understand why he left the executives and legislators of those states in place. He had more or less violated the dictionary meaning of a state of emergency.
“In a state of emergency, everything should have gone! How are you sure some of the executives are not moles? How are you sure some of the executives have not been sponsoring the insurgency? He should have gone the entire haul! The buck stops at his table. He should not have minded what northern critics would say.”
Fielding questions on the possibility that terrorists might shift base to other states to continue with the insurgency, Fasehun said: “If Boko Haram moves base and security breaks down in other states, the President should act! Nobody gains any dividend from a state of emergency. It’s now dawning on Nigerians that we need to sit at a roundtable and have a dialogue.”
