The stake holders in the political and economic sectors have been told to device policies and strategies that will revive the dwindling economy of the country.
Air Marshall Jonah Wuyep made this call during the 2012/2013 1st Lowland Micro-Finance Bank Annual and Financial Reports held at Mabudi, Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Wuyep said the factors challenging Nigeria’s efforts in economic prosperity is the continued substantial dependence of the national economy on oil and gas in a very volatile sector threatened by oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
He added that insecurity is also induced by terrorism and communal clashes.
According to him, it is grossly affecting the growth of the nation’s economy.
Air Marshall Wuyep stated that it is one of these factors that prompted him to indicate interest in vying for the Plateau State governorship seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party to be able to change certain norms.
Wuyep, who is also the Chairman of the Micro-Finance bank over what he described as “intensive poverty and pervasive unemployment, which must be systematically addressed to lift citizens above the poverty line”.
He called on customers and shareholders in the Micro-Finance bank to continue to believe in the services provided to the rural dwellers and support the micro-finance bank assuring them of the commitment to positively impact their lives.
However, the Managing Director of the Micro-Finance bank, Amos Balami, added that the organization had targeted the improvement of agricultural activities, trade/commerce, transportation, housing, education and health to improve the well being of the people.
Balami said: “The years 2012 and 2013 had been unfavourable considering the perennial Fulani disturbances in Langtang South and the more national Boko Haram menace but there were also achievements.
“Our customer base stands at over 7,000 and our loans target agricultural activities, trade/commerce, transportation, construction/housing, education, health, etc, which have improved the economic and general wellbeing of our people.”
Balami encouraged the rural populace to embrace the rural banking through the Micro-Finance bank and increase their shareholding to enable the micro-finance bank commence branch expansion.
