The candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Saturday’s by-election for Ebonyi South Senatorial District, Prof. Anthony Ani, has bee announced as the winner of the poll.
He will be replacing Engr. David Umahi, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the Minister of Works.
The appointment of Umahi, a former Governor of Ebonyi State, was appointed after he was inaugurated as senator.
Ani won Saturday’s election with 46,270 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ifeanyi Eleje of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, who garnered 3,513 votes.

Silas Onu of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 2,783 votes, while Linus Okorie of the Labour Party scored 2,710 votes in the election.
The Returning Officer for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District election, Eze Uchechukwu, disclosed this on Sunday in Afikpo Local Government Area of the state.
According to Eze, Prof. Ani, having certified the requirement of law, is declared the winner and is returned elected.
The Returning Officer had earlier announced that a total of 56,363 votes were cast, while rejected votes were 695.
