Rivers Angels qualify for AITEO Cup

Rivers Angels FC of Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, defeated Delta Babes 5-0 to qualify for the Round of 16 of the AITEO Cup.
Coach Edwin Okon of Rivers Angels told the News Agency of Nigeria after the game at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt that he was excited to win an amateur side.
Okon said: “I am excited that we won because winning an amateur side is not an easy task.
“You saw the game, we were in a hurry to score in the first half but missed so many chances; in all, I am happy with the scoreline.”
According to him, the team is looking up to winning the cup as defending champions.
He said: “It is not because we won 5-0 but generally, with good officiating like this, we will get what we want.”
The Rivers Angels coach said the team was well motivated as they were not lacking anything.
In his reaction, Coach Alfred Poto of Delta Babes said the loss was expected as his side was the underdog.
Poto said his team was just one year and two months old and they were aware that their host was the champion among champions.
He said the AITEO qualifier game was their first major tournament, adding that they had learnt from Rivers United.
He said: “This is our first time and first game in a big tournament like this; we have learnt our lessons, so, we will go back home and plan for the future.”
Chinasa Uchendu, Patience Kalu and Cecilia Nku scored in the 13th, 42nd and 83rd minutes, while Amarachi Ojinmba had a brace in the 75th and 90th minutes.
