The Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, on Tuesday hit hard at the members of the National Working Committee of the party, accusing them of sabotage.
Fani-Kayode specifically alleged that the NWC members of the PDP, headed by the National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, sabotaged the various activities of the campaign organization throughout the period of electioneering.
The former Minister of Aviation stated this in Abuja while reacting to the recent allegation by the NWC of the PDP that the hate campaign mounted against the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, by the PDPPCO was the main reason why the party lost the presidential election.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the hate campaign, which the PDPPCO embarked upon, was responsible for the PDP’s loss at the presidential election.
However, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDPPCO declared that the NWC members actually worked against the presidential campaign organisation of the PDP as well as sabotaged its efforts throughout the period of campaign.
According to Fani-Kayode: “From day one, all they (NEC members) did was to sulk about the fact that a Presidential Campaign Organisation had been set up and that they would not be able to have control of the campaign themselves or have access to the resources that we were given.
“At every point, they tried to undermine our efforts and sabotage us, but we ignored them and remained focused on doing our job despite their provocations.”
Fani-Kayode pointed out that if any group of people were to be held responsible for the PDP’s loss at the poll, it was NWC members.
Fani-Kayode referred to the NWC members of the PDP as “a bunch of bitter and treacherous ingrates who have no business leading a political party”.
The NWC members, he alleged, were collecting monies from aspirants and promising to give them party ticket.
His words: “Were some of them not dividing the ranks of the party?
“Were some of them not really trying to undermine the efforts of the Presidential Campaign Organisation right from the start?”
Fani-Kayode therefore canvassed for the sack of NWC.
He said the members have no capacity to withstand the onslaught of the APC when the party takes over power on May 29.
According to him: “We must throw out the bad eggs in the NWC and prepare for a long drawn out war of attrition with the new incoming government.
“In order to survive over the next four years as a party, we must make the necessary changes at the top otherwise we will be utterly decimated.
“The present leadership of the party, particularly its information organs, have no chance of standing against an All Progressives Congress Federal Government because they are weak and they lack understanding and courage.
“They will be destroyed beyond belief and torn apart if they try it because they do not have the stomach, the grit, the appetite or the wherewithal for a long drawn fight.”
The allegation by the NWC members against the presidential campaign organization, Fani-Kayode maintained, was an attempt to cover up their treachery, weaknesses and inadequacies.
He advised the NWC members to take a cue from what the Labour Party and the Liberal Democratic Party leaders in the United Kingdom did by resigning a few hours after losing the election to the conservatives.
He said: “They (the Labour Party and the Liberal Democratic Party leaders) resigned with honour and no one had to ask them to go or call for their resignation.
“They did the right and proper thing because they are well educated people who have honour.”
