Following the breakdown of law and order after the announcement of the outcome of the presidential election, the Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has announced restriction of movement in the state.
The governor, who spoke through the Secretary to State Government, Saidu Ndako Kpaki, said the curfew, which is from 6pm on Tuesday till 8am on Wednesday, is expected to affect places like Minna, Bida, Mokwa, Kontagora and Suleja.
He said the victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, should be celebrated and not marred by civil unrest, adding that the state government will do everything within its power to maintain law and order.
According to him: “The beauty of democracy is to respect the rule of law. I call on all Nigerlites to eschew violence. For me, the victory of the All Progressives Congress candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, and other candidates of the National Assembly in Niger state should be celebrated and not desecrated by violence.
“We must understand that our democracy has thrived and Nigeria as a country must remain an indivisible entity with common interest and articulated developmental aspiration.”
Aliyu said the elections in the state was peaceful and devoid of irregularities, adding that the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and the state should be commended for allowing the wish of the people to prevail.
