Presidency planning to spend N250m on gateman’s house in VP’s residence – Senate

The security post, also known as gateman’s house, in the official residence of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is gulp N250 million.
This was revealed on Thursday by the ‎Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory.
Addressing newsmen, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Dino Melaye, called for a review of the contract for the gate house.
However, it has been discovered that the gateman’s house has a budget of N55 million and it is to be built by Julius Berger.
Melaye also dispelled the media report that the leadership of the National Assembly collected over N600 million as accommodation allowance.
He said there was no time when the Federal Capital Development Authority paid accommodation allowance to the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki; the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and the Deputy Speaker, Yususf Lasun.
He explained that the National Assembly leadership removed N10 billion for official residence for them in the 2016 budget.
Melaye, who described the NGO behind the media report, accused the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, of sponsoring the group against the leadership of National Assembly.
Babachir was accused of N200 million contract fraud by a Senate panel.
Melaye, who put his integrity online, insisted that no kobo was paid by the FCDA to the National Assembly leadership for accommodation.
He said Saraki, Ekweremadu, Dogara and Lasun are all living ‎in their private residences.
According to him: “I put my integrity on test to say no kobo was collected by any National Assembly leadership for their accommodations.
“They are all living in their private residences.”
