Sunshine Stars FC of Akure on Sunday defeated visiting Kano Pillars FC 3-0 in the Nigeria Professional Football League Week 13 encounter.
The match, played at the Akure Township Stadium, saw the Akure gunners outplaying the defending champions in all departments of the match.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Paul Onobi put Sunshine ahead in the 24th minute through a header from a corner kick.
Seun Olulayo slotted home the second goal from close range in the 57th minute after Tunde Adeniji’s shot was dropped by the Pillars’ goalkeeper.
Dayo Ojo made it three from the spot in the 81st minute to seal victory for the home team.
The Coach of Sunshine Stars, Kennedy Boboye, told NAN he was impressed with the performance of his players.
Boboye thanked the fans and the management of the state football agency for providing the necessary incentives to aid the team to victory.
He said: “I am so impressed.
“We are going to plan how to win our next match away.”
