President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the organized Labour on Monday night agreed that pensioners in the country should commence immediate payment of check off dues.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa and presided over by President Jonathan, was attended by the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress and the Nigerian Union of Pensioners.
On the government team were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Bukar Goni Aji; the State Counsel; and the Director-General of the Budget Office, Bright Okogwu.
Briefing correspondents after the late night meeting, Presidential Media Adviser, Dr. Reuben Abati, said President Jonathan, having listened to the presentation made by the Labour Unions directed the relevant ministry and agency to ensure that the check off dues of pensioners are paid immediately.
On other issues raised at the meeting, Abati said the President also set up a government team that will liaise with representatives of organized labour.
