Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the running mate to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday urged the electorate to defy the order by the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, that voters should go home after casting their votes in the coming elections.
The candidate said voters must vote out President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday to regain their political and economic independence.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with APC supporters in Ado Ekiti on Monday, Osinbajo said the Peoples Democratic Party-led government has grounded the country through pervasive corruption and other socio-economic problems occasioned by clueless governance in the last 16 years.
Osinbajo said a vote for Buhari is a vote for deliverance from the shackles of “poverty, unemployment and corruption”.
He said the PDP government had imported these vices into the country.
The APC presidential running mate said the focus of Buhari’s presidency would be how to tackle the unemployment that is killing the destiny of many of the Nigerian youths and corruption that have made the country a laughing stock in the comity of nations.
He said: “President Jonathan is tired of governance because he is overwhelmed. His government has no focus. As of today, Nigeria is the most corrupt in the world.
“That is why they are afraid of Buhari’s presidency because they are afraid of being jailed. They know there won’t be room for corrupt practices. We are promising you that wonders shall happen again in this country if Buhari wins this election.
“President Jonathan has failed Nigerians in all aspects and deserves to be rejected by Nigerians. If you look at our programme, all we emphasize is how to provide jobs for our unemployed youths. Whether Jonathan likes it or not, the dream of Nigeria becoming a liberated State shall come to pass on Saturday.”,
Osinbajo urged voters to defy Abba’s order that they should leave the polling units after voting, saying they should vote and protect their votes.
The APC Deputy Chairman, South, and former Governor of Ekiti State, Engr. Segun Oni, who branded Jonathan’s government as a disgrace to the country, said Nigeria cannot afford another four years of corruption and bad governance under the PDP rule.
Oni said: “Nigeria is the only country where over 400,000 barrels of crude oil are being stolen daily. Nigeria is the only country where people are being kidnapped without resistance. Nigeria is the only country where a president said stealing is no corruption. All these would have to stop for the coming generations to be proud of us as leaders.”
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, urged the Ekiti State populace to use the election to be part of history as one of those who fought for Nigeria’s rebirth.
Fayemi added that those that are afraid of being jailed should not be allowed to perpetuate themselves in office and continue to loot the country.
Present at the occasion were former Governor Niyi Adebayo; former Governor of old Ondo State, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua; former Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu; Bisi Fayemi and Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele among others.
