Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has commiserated with the National President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Comrade Ibraheem Kaleel, over the death of its Ekiti Chapter Chairman, Ayo Folalu, and three others in an auto crash on Tuesday on their way to a conference in Benin City.
In a condolence letter to the National President on Wednesday, Oshiomhole said: “I received with great shock news of the death of Comrade Ayo Afolalu, the Ekiti State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), and three other officials while on their way to the Union’s 2nd special delegates conference in Benin City. I wish to convey to the NULGE family the deepest condolence of the people and Government of Edo State as well as my personal commiseration.
“His death is a big loss to NULGE and to the Nigerian Trade Union Movement. I understand that Comrade Afolalu was one of the most resourceful State Presidents and a key advocate of reform in the Union.
“Our hearts are with you at this very difficult moment. However, much as we must mourn our comrades, we urge you not to allow this unfortunate incident to undermine your collective resolve to reposition your union. Indeed, the greatest way you can honour their cherished memories is to keep the flag flying.
“We join you to pray for the repose of the souls of Comrade Afolalu and our other illustrious brothers. We also pray our Heavenly Father to strengthen their families and your colleagues with His consoling grace.
“Please, do kindly convey our sympathy to the families of our departed Comrades and members of NULGE. May their souls rest in peace, Amen.”
