Osaze Odemwingie’s hopes of resurrecting his season in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday have been dashed by injury.
Odemwingie had hopes to sneak onto the bench for Tuesday night’s quarter final against Sheffield Wednesday.
But on Monday, manager Mark Hughes revealed: “Peter has got a slight hamstring pull, so isn’t available.”
Hughes added that Phil Bardsley could also be a doubtful deputy after banging his calf in training.
But Marc Muniesa is an option, probably as cover on the bench, after playing 70 minutes for the under-21s following a spell out with hamstring trouble.
Hughes confirmed that Jack Butland would be in goal as Shay Given is still recovering from knee surgery.
Geoff Cameron is expected to resume in central defence after replacing the red-carded Ryan Shawcross at Sunderland at the weekend.
Shawcross serves his one-match ban on Tuesday before a probable return against Manchester City on Saturday.
