Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has finally departed the country’s shores to complete his medical on Friday with Chelsea ahead of the west London side’s campaign in the English Premier League and in the European Championship.
Omeruo’s celebration for securing work permit was almost short lived as the player was left stranded in Nigeria due to delay in securing visa to the United Kingdom.
The player, who has been granted a five-year work permit, last week got his entry visa from the High Commission in Abuja very late on Thursday but on time for him to travel on Thursday night to the UK, where he is scheduled to undergo medicals with Chelsea.
The player will however not join Chelsea on a tour of the United States as the delay in securing entry visa ensured he missed the trip.
The Ado Den Haag of Holland defender will formalize his new contract with Chelsea, subject to the medical results.
The Eagle Online however gathered that Chelsea officials made a special plea to the Home Office before he could be issued work permit.
Meanwhile, due to the delay in his travel plans, the former junior international had to train with the home-based Eagles to keep fit ahead of resumption of the new season.
