As 20 corps members who served in Plateau State in the 2014 Batch ‘C’ service year were honoured by the National Youth Service Corps for hard work and dedication to the service to the nation, four are to repeat their service year for non-challance.
This came to light on Thursday during the passing out parade of the 2014 Batch (C) corps members at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos, Plateau State.
Those to repeat their service year was on ground that they refused to remain in the area of their primary assignments.
The Plateau State Governor, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, in his address, urged those who served in Plateau State not to let their relationship with the state be in vain.
Lalong, who spoke through his deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, expressed the appreciation of the government and the people of Plateau State to the award winning corps members for their outstanding contributions to their host communities.
He said: “Always see yourselves as ambassadors of this state and the nation at large where you all find yourselves.
“We will not forget in a hurry the noble role played by the outgoing NYSC members in ensuring that the 2015 general elections were free and credible.”
Lalong commended the NYSC scheme for achievements recorded in education, health care delivery, rural transformation, social services, agriculture and infrastructure in various parts of the state.
The State Coordinator of the NYSC, Abdul-razak Salawu, commended the NYSC for the scheme as it introduced national cohesion and integration, while assisting in ensuring the spread of needed manpower throughout the country.
Salawu noted the highly successful free surgical operations involving over 50 patients carried out in Ballang Shillang community in Pankshin Local Government Area of the state.
