Yusuf Abdullahi, a 12-year-old boxer from Nasarawa State, says he is poised on winning a gold medal at the ongoing 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
Abdullahi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria shortly after knocking out Maxwell Aniwake of Enugu State.
This was in the 42kg male boxing event that took place on Saturday to book a quarterfinals slot.
The boxer said: “I am yet to give my best.
“This is just a warm up game.
“My target is a gold medal at this game.
“I was prepared for this game and I am very determined to win the gold medal in my category.”
Abdullahi, who dominated the contest with his devastating punches, was declared winner of the bout after the referee stopped the contest in the third round.

The referee halted the fight in the third round, counted to eight to ascertain if Aniwake was fit to continue, but his coach threw in the towel.
In his reaction after the fight, Abdullahi said: “I feel happy boxing.
“I am yet to unleash my power.
“I will do that in the final.
“I give kudos to my coach, Nnamdi Osuji.
“He trained me well and I believe I will beat my next opponent.”
