Nine persons died in an auto crash involving a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number JHN 82 XA and a Sharon bus at Ganji-gyedi village in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Friday.
The state Commandant of the NNigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Muhammad Gidado, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse that the accident occurred at about 4pm.
The commandant said the accident occurred when the Sharon bus, heading to Kano, had a burst tyre and rammed into the Toyota Hiace bus coming from the opposite direction.
According to Gidado, the two drivers lost control of the buses and hit some jerry cans filled with petrol by the road side and burst into flames.
Gidado said that six of the passengers were burnt beyond recognition, adding that three others died later in General Hospital in Ringim.
He said that seven others, in critical condition, were referred to Rashidi Shekoni Specialist Hospital in Dutse, the state capital.
According to him, the charred remains of the six were given mass burial, while the other three who died later in hospital were buried individually.
