NGO advocates special national honour for Jonathan

A non governmental organization, Sunday Bala-Oma Foundation, has called on all Nigerians and lovers of democracy to tag March 31 every year as Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Day of Peace.
The Executive Director of the foundation, Sunday Bala-Oma, made this known in a press statement in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Wednesday.
Bala-Oma said: “The action of the former president in making that call to President Muhammadu Buhari on that faithful day remains the single action that made Nigerians defeat all prophecies of doom and disunity that characterized the build up the 2015 general elections.
“My foundation is a Non Governmental Organization established to advocate for good governance and qualitative education for sustainable development.
“It has volunteered to spearhead the campaign to celebrate the date due to its significance in the promotion of democracy in Nigeria and Africa.
“The nature and philosophy of the person of GEJ is the kind of leader that is in short supply in Africa.
“The man chose to promote democracy at a time he was under pressure by some Nigerians advising him to annual the election.
“GEJ saved Nigerians of a second civil war when he ignore calls to annul the 2015 presidential election. Instead, Jonathan held on to his philosophy of ‘My political ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian’ and went ahead to put a call through to President Buhari to congratulate him and conceding his own defeat in the election.
“For that singular action, GEJ has not only earned himself international recognition by global pro-democracy organizations, but has also taken democracy in Africa to higher height.
“As we celebrate this icon, we encouraged all lovers of democracy all over Nigeria  and Africa to emulate the GEJ political philosophy which has endeared the country to developed democracies across the world.
“Being the first anniversary of the date, it will be marked by the foundation in low key but subsequent years will be celebrated in full so as to advance the course of democracy in the country and Africa.”
