In a deliberate effort to ensure speedy completion of projects and quick delivery of other services, the Niger Delta Development Commission has inaugurated three committees.
They are the ad hoc committee on the 2nd South- South Economic Summit, Procurement Planning Committee on the 2012 Financial Year, and the 2012 Budget Committee.
Inaugurating the committees, the Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh, described the assignments of the committees as crucial as their success would go a long way in setting the tone for the commission.
He particularly charged members of the South South Ad Hoc Committee to come out with a report as to where the NDDC is expected to be in the next 10 years.
Oboh also reminded members of the 2012 Budget Committee on the task ahead of them, insisting that the commission must not fail in fulfilling its promise of presenting the 2012 budget to the National Assembly by April.
He further charged them to ensure that only big ticket projects that will impact meaningfully on the lives of the people are provided for in the budget.
Oboh said: “Let us forget about small projects and look at big ones. There is no need budgeting every year, when we can’t execute. Our emphasis should be on completion of projects.”
On due process, the MD said: “I want weekly reports. If we are able to do our bit, we will able to move the commission from where we are.”
Responding on behalf of the committees, Director, Planning Research, Statistics, Management Information Systems, Dr. Henrietta Ogan, said they would work with utmost commitment and dedication to achieve set goals.
