Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board, David Ayewa, says no fewer than 250 intending pilgrims will be transported to Jerusalem for the 2020 pilgrimage exercise.
Ayewa said this in an interview with newsmen during the screening exercise for the intending pilgrims on Tuesday in Lafia.
He said that out of the number, the state government sponsored 204 persons, 44 were sponsored by the 13 local government areas, while two were self-sponsored.
The executive secretary said that the board was working towards addressing the cases of those who were denied visa during the 2019 pilgrimage exercise due to some irregularities.
He attributed the reduction in the number of self-sponsored pilgrims from the state in the 2020 exercise to economic challenges occasioned by the COVID-19 lockdown.
He said that the pilgrims would be transported to Israel immediately after the screening exercise to perform the 2020 pilgrimage.
He therefore, admonished the intending pilgrims to conduct themselves maturely to avoid being denied the opportunity of performing the exercise.
