Customers of telecommunications giants, MTN, are groaning over the deduction of their airtime without usage.
A number of them who spoke with The Eagle Online, said that they discovered the surcharge after they attempted making calls wiothout success.
One of MTN’s subscribers in Lagos State, Bukola Adebayo, said she discovered that her credit had been wiped off on Thursday evening.
Adebayo, who has since removed the MTN sim from her phone for that of another service provider, said it was not only her credit that was deducted, even the monthly Blackberry service she subscribed to was stopped by the company.
Another customer of the service provider, Wale Scott, sent a Blackberry message to The Eagle Online on the development.
Scott said in the message: “Please check your account balance (as) MTN has become fraudulenmt.
“They have emptied everyone’s account today….”
One of the aides of former Governor Segun Oni of Ekiti State, Lere Olayinka, also lodged the same complaint on social network, Facebook.
In a message titled: “Operation stop MTN fraud,” Olayinka wrote: Yesterday (Thursday), MTN defrauded me of over N600 airtime oooo! This MTN na thief oooo!Let’s stop this fraud today….:”
But there were those who said their credit was not tampered with.
A Lagos resident, Bunmi Akinwale, said it did not happen to him.
MTN says it is aware of the issue.
