Man remanded in Ikoyi prison for stabbing friend

An Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday remanded a 28-year-old man, Charles Nwobodo, who was charged with assault, for allegedly stabbing his friend with a broken bottle.
Magistrate Taslimi Shomade remanded the accused, of no fixed address and occupation, at the Ikoyi Prison, pending the outcome of legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions.
The prosecutor, ASP Godwin Eze, had told the court that the offence was committed on May 25 at Melody Hotel, Sabo, in the Ojo area of Lagos.
Eze alleged that the accused, at about 2am, stabbed one Uche Orji, his friend, with a broken bottle, causing him bodily harm and injury.
“There was a quarrel between the duo which led to a fight, but by the next adjourned date, more evidences and information will be revealed to the court,” Eze said.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
According to the law, anyone found guilty of assault is liable to imprisonment for three years.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The case was adjourned to June 24 for the DPP’s advice.
