Liverpool travel to London, Roma face Juventus as European football action resumes

The 2019/20 Premier League season continues this weekend with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur hosting red hot Liverpool in London.
Tottenham, after an initial bounce when manager Jose Mourinho arrived, has stuttered of late, winning just one of their last four league clashes and coming into this game on the back of an insipid 1-0 loss away to Southampton early in the New Year.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have been imperious in the Premier League and defeated Sheffield United 2-0 at home last midweek to ensure they enjoy a massive 13-point lead over second-placed Leicester City.
With Tottenham yet to find their rhythm, Jurgen Klopp will be confident that the Reds can repeat the 2-1 victory they claimed over Spurs back in October and bring their winning streak over the London side to five matches across all competitions.
Another exciting fixture in the Premier League this weekend is the London derby between Arsenal and Crystal Palace.
The Eagles are currently enjoying a strong campaign and are one place above their opponents who occupy 10th position.
However, the Gunners showed in their last Premier League outing against Manchester United that they have found new energy under Mikel Arteta.
This is a clash which will also be peppered with major African stars, including Wilfried Zaha, Jordan Ayew, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Elsewhere, Manchester United host bottom-of-the-log Norwich City, Chelsea will hope their home form returns with a clash against Burnley, and Everton will chase another win under new manager Carlo Ancelotti when Brighton & Hove Albion head to Goodison Park.
Football fans can watch all the match live on Supersports on DStv and GOtv.
In the English Championship, Brentford host Queens Park Rangers at Griffin Park.
The Bees have been in outstanding form over recent weeks, culminating in a 4-0 home win over Bristol City on New Year’s day, in which Brian Mbeumo, Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins shared the goals to push the club up to third place on the log.
Rangers, by contrast, went through a miserable spell in December before blowing away the cobwebs by crushing Cardiff City 6-1 on January 1, with Nakhi Wells hitting a hat-trick as the London club exploded back to form.
This game is well poised for a thrilling action as both teams come into the match on the back of convincing victories in their last fixture.
Another intriguing game in the championship this weekend is the Welsh derby between Cardiff City and Swansea City on Sunday afternoon.
Swansea, who have dominated Cardiff in head-to-head, winning 10 of the teams’ last 20 clashes (suffering just five defeats in the process) will be going all out against their Welsh opponent as they hope to secure a playoff position at the end of the season.
The Swans also claimed a 1-0 win over their fellow Welsh club when they last met back in October 2019 at the Liberty Stadium.
Both games will be live on Supersports on DStv and GOtv.
In the Seria A this weekend, SuperSport viewers will enjoy the clash of Roma and Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico in the “Eternal City” on Sunday night.
With Roma climbing up the log at the back end of 2019, they will back themselves to trouble the champions on home soil, especially if they can get the likes of Edin Dzeko, Nicolo Zaniolo and Henrikh Mkhitaryan firing on all cylinders.
Juventus, on the other hand, will hope that Christiano Ronaldo will continue his goalscoring form against the Giallorossi on Sunday.
Juventus remain one of the clear favourites to win the Serie A title this season.
They will hold no fear of trip of Rome – despite losing 2-0 at the hands of the Giallorossi at the back end of last season.
The clash will be critical to both teams’ ambitions: Juve’s championship chase with Internazionale means they cannot afford to drop points regularly, while Roma will feel the same in their battle for a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Other Serie A matches to watch out for this round include Milan with a must-win clash away to Cagliari, Lazio hosting Napoli, Sampdoria with a key relegation six-pointer at home to Brescia, and Gervinho’s Parma at home to Lecce to round out the action in a late game on Monday night.
Seria A football fans can watch all Seria A match on Supersports on DStv and GOtv.
