Kano NLC defies national body, vows to continue mass protest

The Nigeria Labour Congress, Kano State chapter, has defied the order of the national body to suspend the strike over the increase in the pump price of petrol

According to a report on the website of 247 U-Report, protesters in Kano State turned out in the thousands to continue with the mass action, which started last week but already called off by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress at the national level.

And this was in spite of measures put in place by the state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Kwankwaso, to stop the protest.

The turnout was impressive, with the protest that started from Liberation Square and ended at the Western Bye-Pass Flyover along Zaria Road.

The roads to the Government House were manned by detachments of military personnel and the police.

The State Chairman of the NLC, Malam Dangogoya, said the mass protest in the state will be sustained until a reversal of the pump price of petrol to N65 per litre.

He said, “We will march tomorrow. We are not part of the deal between (Abdulwahed) Omar (President of the NLC) and (President Goodluck) Jonathan. We represent the people of Kano.”
