The President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has approved the conferment of the prestigious Nigerian National Order of Merit Award on two distinguished Nigerians for the 2012 NNOM Award.
Those to be conferred with the award are Professors Chukwunonyerem Ohaegbulam and Emmanuel Ayotunde Yoloye.
While Ohaegbulam was nominated in his area of specialization, medicine, Yoloye is being considered in the humanities.
According to a statement from the coordinating office of the NNOM, Ohaegbulam is an active and consistent researcher with many publications that span important areas of neurosurgery such as skull base surgery, oncology, trauma, and pediatric and neurosurgical education.
His work on the microsurgical anatomy of the cavernous sinus, a small but delicate area of the skull base, often involved in surgically treatable diseases of the brain, and for which he proposed a safe and effective surgical corridor.
He is said to be indeed a committed and consummated intellectual and one of the pioneers in the field of neurosurgery in Nigeria.
Yoloye is a renowned and keenly sought expert in educational Psychology, Chemistry and Science Education, who has been an outstanding beacon of scholarship in the field of Education in not only Nigeria but also at international level.
The statement said he is unquestionably one of the most prodigious scholars in African.
He is the author of nearly 20 books covering a wide range of topics and also a contributor of over 50 chapters to published scholarly books.
The statement said in line with the transformation agenda of the present administration and in order to enhance further research works, each recipient will be entitled to a cash award prize of N10 million.
The recipient will also be entitled to a medal and a certificate.
Jonathan will decorate the two nominees with the NNOM Award on December 6, 2012 at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
