Jigawa to immunise 1m children against polio

The Jigawa State Government is to immunise one million children against the polio virus during the ongoing Special Immunisation Plus Days, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tafida Abubakar, has said.
Abubakar made the disclosure at the commencement of the exercise in Korin-makera Village in the Dutse Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.
He said that the five-day re-vaccination exercise would cover 26 Local Government Areas.
The commissioner said that the aim of the vaccination was to cover children who missed the previous exercise.
He said that the re-vaccination would also cover all the wards in Kirikasamma, Birniwa, Guri, Kaugama and Maigatari Local Government Areas.
Abubakar said, however, that Hadejia Local Government Area would be exempted from the exercise because it was not one of the high-risk areas.
According to him, the state has no record of polio myelitis in the past seven months.
The commissioner commended the State Government for its efforts to eradicate polio in the state.
