The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa State on Tuesday rescued a new born baby girl abandoned by her mother in a grave yard.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Muhammad Gidado, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Dutse, the state capital, that the baby was discovered at Shagari cemetery in Kazaure Local Government Area.
Gidado added that the baby was discovered at about 2:27am by officers of the command while on patrol.
He said the personnel were attracted to the scene by the cries of the baby.
The baby was packed in a carton, dressed in vest and covered with wrapper.
The commandant stated that the abandoned baby had been taken to Kazaure General Hospital for medical attention.
According to him, the NSCDC has informed the Kazaure Emirate Council and officials of the local council on the incident.
Gidado said that no arrest had been made but that investigation had commenced into the case.
