Jang inaugurates 14 LG chairmen, deputies

Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State on Monday in Jos inaugurated the 14 newly-elected local government chairmen and their deputies.
Jang called on the chairmen to discharge their duties to the people, irrespective of their political alienation.
He said: “It is incumbent that you don’t betray the trust bestowed on you by the people as a large section of the population reside at the grassroots.
“This implies that a good size of the population is yearning for improved governance and service delivery.”
The governor said as part of his administration’s desire to propel development at the grassroots, the state government had made some savings from the Value Added Tax.
He said the saving would be released to the councils for the implementation of capital projects.
He also said that the government would organise a retreat for the chairmen to realign their visions with the redemption agenda.
Jang commended the State Independent Electoral Commission for conducting a successful and peaceful exercise.
“The electorate and party supporters have equally demonstrated great maturity and understanding during and after the elections,” he said.
The exercise was conducted in 15 of the 17 local governments areas but only 14 had their results announced, while that of Langtang North was cancelled.
The chairmen that took oath of office included those of Jos-East, Jos-South, Riyom, Langtang-South, Kanam, Mikang, Shendam, Mangu, Barikin-Ladi, Pankshin, Quanpan, Bokkos, Bassa and Kanke local government areas.
