InnovateLagos, a Lagos State Government initiative to support innovation across all sectors in Lagos State, has completed Stage One of its IdeasLagos competition.
The IdeasLagos competition, created to provide students with a platform on which they can express their creative and innovative ideas, ran in all 22 secondary schools on Lagos Island in November 2013.
From a total of 749 student groups that participated in Stage 1, 25 groups emerged as winners and have progressed to Stage 2.
Stage 2 of the IdeasLagos competition showcases innovative solutions submitted by the 25 student groups and allows members of the public vote online via our website www.innovatelagos.com from now till January 15, 2014 for the best ideas.
The top 10 ideas with the most votes will then proceed to Stage 3, where a select panel of judges and sponsors, including MTN Nigeria, Consol Nigeria Limited and FCMB will select the five best ideas.
The 25 winning groups are from Lafiaji Junior and Senior Secondary School, Epetedo Junior and Senior Secondary School, Kings College Lagos, Okesunna Senior Secondary School, Girls Senior Academy, Ebute Elefun Senior Secondary School, Eko Akete Junior and Senior Secondary School, Isale Eko Senior Secondary School, Lafiaji Senior School, who submitted ideas covering agriculture, security, education, energy and many others.
By running the IdeasLagos competition, InnovateLagos hopes to promote problem-solving and innovation as a culture amongst Lagos’ youth.
Through IdeasLagos, students have been given a platform to create and develop solutions to some of the challenges they have identified in their communities.
