The Independent National Electoral Commission in Ekiti State said it has so far distributed a total of 499,301 Permanent Voter Cards to eligible voters in the state.
The commission also said it had taken delivery of all electronic card readers it would use during the election.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Sam Olumekun, said a total of 2,653 card readers had been deployed in the state and made ready 9,244 poll officials for the entire 2,311 voting points in the state.
Olumekun the commission was still expecting the list of political parties agents in the state and pointed out that the parties had up till Friday (today) to submit the list of their agents as prescribed by the law.
While thanking the people of the state for their cooperation in the June 21, 2014 governorship election in the state, which he said “contributed immensely to our success”, the REC added: “We shall remain appreciative of the good working relationship with a view to improving on the set standard come 2015 general elections.”
The meeting, which had in attendance political parties, civil society groups, women groups, people living with disability, market women, youth groups and sundry stakeholders also had security agencies warning Nigerians to exercise their civic responsibility as good citizens and avoid rancour.
