The Independent National Electoral Commission in Plateau State will on Mondaycommence the training of Supervisory Presiding Officers for the upcoming general elections.
The Head of Department of Voter Education/Publicity of the commission in Plateau State, Osaretin Imahiyereobo, disclosed that the training will commence simultaneously in the 274 Registration Areas of the state.
In press statement issued on Sunday, Imahiyereobo said the exercise, which will last for three days, comes after the two-day training of the Commission’s key personnel from January 28 to 30, 2015.
The statement said: “The training exercise involved the Electoral Officers from the 17 Local Government Areas in the State and other senior personnel of the Commission is in preparation for the training of other Election Day personnel.
“Other personnel earmarked for training are the 19,305 Presiding Officers/Assistant Presiding Officers and the 274 Collation/Returning Officers (COs/ROs).
“The Supervisory Presiding Officers, the Presiding Officers and their Assistants are expected to be trained on the use of Card Readers, an innovation introduced by the Commission for accreditation and other Election Day activities.
“The three-day training for Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers commence on Thursday February 5 and end on Saturday, February 7, 2015.
“Meanwhile, all Ad-hoc staff (PO’s, APO’s, & SPO’s) that did not get the SMS and could not find their names on the display list at their Local Government Area State of Residence should go back with acknowledgement slip for screening on Monday 2nd February, 2015 between 9am and 4pm.”
