I left Wikki Tourists FC to tackle fresh challenges – Maikaba

Former Chief Coach of Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, Abdu Maikaba, said on Thursday that he left the club for Akwa Utd, to tackle fresh challenges.
In a telephone chat with the News Agency of Nigeria in Bauchi, Maikaba, who spoke from Uyo, said that he decided to move to the Akwa Ibom State clubside, having stayed for “too long” with Wikki Tourists.
Maikaba said: “Wikki has no cause to cry because we signed a contract to take the team to execute NPFL and possibly take it to qualify for continental ticket, which I did.
“The contract terminates at the end of 2015/2016 season and the season has ended with success.
“My new team (Akwa Utd) that had it bad during the just concluded NPFL, is also yearning for me to replicate what I had done to Wikki Tourist and I cannot say no.”
Maikaba said that he was moving with one of the Wikki players, Mustapha Ibrahim, in spite of the word of caution by management of Wikki team that he should not take any player.
He said: “I am not going to snatch Wikki players as is the usual practice with other coaches, but I am going along with only one player, Mustapha Ibrahim, to my new team.
“Wikki management knows that this player has a problem that will not allow him play well in Bauchi; that is why I am carrying him along.
“I wish Wikki well and I am sure we shall be meeting, especially during 2016/2017 season.”
NAN recalls that Maikaba left Wikki Tourists unceremoniously after leading the Bauchi-based team through the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League.
Under the tutorship of Maikaba, the team placed third in the just concluded NPFL, thus picking a ticket for continental engagement.
