Under fire Ghana star striker, Asamoah Gyan, has retired from international football with immediate effect for an indefinite period.
Gyan confirmed his international retirement and indeed sent a letter to the Ghana Football Association.
In the letter, Gyan says that “the decision has the full backing of family and friends.”
The on-loan Sunderland striker has hit 28 goals in 59 appearances for Ghana, but came in for heavy criticism after missing a penalty in the 2012 African Nations Cup semifinal against Zambia, a match the Black Stars eventually lost 0-1.
It is understood that the intense criticism has played a part in this decision.
Gyan incurred the wrath and heavy criticism of Ghanaians for missing a crucial penalty kick in Ghana’s semi-final game against the eventual champions, Zambia.
