The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, on Monday arrested a total of 156 traffic offenders for failure to install speed-limiting device in their vehicles.
The Sector Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said in a statement in Lagos that the enforcement was carried out simultaneously across the state with focus on speed-limiting device violation, number plate violation, and failure to properly fill passenger manifest by inter-state commercial vehicles.
A statement by FRSC Public Education Officer, Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, said the operations commenced 8th June, 2021 as part of the command’s intervention patrol aimed at achieving reduction in road traffic crashes involving articulated trucks and inter-state commercial vehicles.
The command decried the recent trend by VIPs who are fond of replacing their number plates with pet names, stressing that number plates have security features that should not be tampered with under any disguise.
“We have noticed a new trend of aberration and disregard to law and order. A situation where some Very Important Personalities (VIPs) and motorists change one of their number plates, which comes in pairs, with their pet names or their popular slogans can no longer be tolerated,” she said.
She noted that private/commercial number plates come in pairs meant for both front and rear of the vehicle, except for articulated vehicle number plates that come in three.
Ogungbemide advised all truck owners that do not have capacity to adhere to minimum safety standards for their trucks should take their vehicles off Lagos roads to avoid being apprehended.
