FG allocates N6.66b to NSC, NFF, NIS for 2015

The sum of N6.66 billion has been allocated to the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Institute for Sports for the 2015 sports year.
In compliance with the directives from the Senate Committee on Sports for a compulsory appearance of all the principal staff of the Ministry of Sports comprising the Minister, Tammy Danagogo; the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye; and the NFF president, Pinnick Amaju, were all present during budget defence at the National Assembly on Friday.
Presenting both the 2014 budget appraisal and defence of 2015 annual allocation, Elegbeleye had told the committee that though the NSC would require more budgetary allocations this year, the Federal Government allocated an envelop of N4.942 billion.
The football federation equally revealed that despite their expectation of over N5 billion to prosecute various football activities this year, the Federal Government only allocated an envelop of a paltry N1.242 billion.
A total sum of N479.485 million allocated to the NIS for the 2015 fiscal year complete the N6.66 billion allocated the to the Ministry of Sports.
Danagogo had earlier rendered an unparalleled apology to the National Assembly for failing to attend the budget defence hearing on Thursday, blaming his absence on late arrival of the invitation letter.
He said: “Let me apologize to this committee for failing to be here during the Thursday budget defence.
“The problem was because the invitation came too late when I was out of town.
“I want to assure this committee of my loyalty to the National Assembly.
“I want to also assure you of my willingness to work with your committee.
“I have to count myself lucky to be working with Sports Committee members who are not only very interested in sports but are also sports enthusiasts.”
