Warri Wolves on Thursday in Bauchi triumphed over Akwa United 2-1 to qualify for the finals of the 2013 Federations Cup.
The match was played on Wednesday, but had to be concluded on Thursday due to heavy rainfall.
The pitch of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, became water-logged after 75 minutes of play, as a result of which the match Commissioner, Pascal Patrick, stopped the game, with both sides having a goal each.
Ukeme Davies of Akwa United and Ogheneke Elebo of Warri Wolves, scored for their sides in the 25th and 68th minutes of play on Wednesday.
As spectators prepare to watch a full time re-play of the game on Thursday, officials announced that the game would last for only 15 minutes, being the balance of the 90 minutes regulation time.
At about 12 minutes into play on Thursday, a player of Warri Wolves was brought down in the penalty box of the opponents as he tried to score.
The resultant penalty kick saw Aduluwa Gift of Warri Wolves hitting the back of the net of United for the second and winning goal.
Solomon Ogbeide, Coach of Warri Wolves, said after the encounter that he was not surprised by the victory of his team as they had prepared fully for the match.
Ogbeide said: “God has done it for us.
“We prepared for victory and we got it.”
Justin Tenge, Coach of Akwa United, declined comment when approached by newsmen for his reaction to the outcome of the match.
