Fayose must not lose vision of stomach infrastructure – Speaker

To continue to be relevant in the reckoning of the masses of Ekiti State, the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, must not lose the vision of his stomach infrastructure philosophy.

This was the position of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Kola Oluwawole.

The lawmaker gave the advice while entertaining questions from some journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the office of the Special Assistant (Media) to the Speaker, Stephen Gbadamosi, Oluwawole was presenting an appraisal of the governor’s performance in office as he clocks one year in a few weeks.

Oluwawole said the governor had given a good account of himself within the short time he had occupied the office, despite the daunting financial challenges he inherited from his predecessor.

He said: “By October, the governor will be one year in office. With the situation he met on ground where virtually all the resources of the state have been mortgaged, he has done very well. In terms of infrastructure provision, he has done well within the short time in office. It was like magic when he resumed and constructed that bypass around Pathfinder hotel.

“There is also this road in Adehun, which the last administration had abandoned. Fayose has done it. Chanelisation of rivers and streams is going on in all flood prone areas in the state. The governor is building modern markets; there is one around Bisi Egbeyemi, near Okeyinmi there. There is also one at Oja Oba.

“He is constructing the amphitheatre within the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti. He has surprised many of with the meagre resources in his custody. Our opponents thought we would not be able to perform. I think they deliberately left us in this dire financial situation; they deliberately crippled the finances of the state. But we have proved them wrong.

“Therefore, the governor should concentrate on the philosophy of his administration, stomach infrastructure. Initially, people thought this was about sharing rice. No, it is beyond that. But now, other governments are copying it. It is about empowerment. It is about social welfare; providing water for the masses, getting jobs for the jobless, etc.

“He should ignore all those distractions from the opposition. I need to tell you that the House of Assembly is very much in support of all the actions of the governor.”
