Family plans post-humous birthday for Kefee

The family of the late Branama Queen, Irikefe Don-Momoh, popularly known as Kefee, is planning a post-humous birthday celebration and memorial event on her birthday on February 5 in Lagos.

Kefee’s husband, Teddy Don-Momoh, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursdayin Lagos that the event would be tagged: Kefee Birthday Project – A Memorial Concert and Album Launch.

Don-Momoh said the event had been given tacit approval by his late wife’s friends and colleagues most of who will perform in her honour.

He said: “It hasn’t been easy coping without my wife since last year but God has seen me through so far.

“She had done a lot of work and there were various plans and different projects we were working on before her sudden death.

“It is only fair for me to continue with most of the work as she would have wanted them to and also keep her memory alive.

“The memorial concert was initially planned during the burial period but because of the shock of the event and some other factors, we couldn’t realise it.

“A lot of her friends are interested in honouring her and we are going to do it this time by God’s grace.”

Don-Momoh said a compilation CD of Kefee’s videos beginning from her first hit, Branama, was also being put together, adding that guests would have copies on the day of the event.

In a related development, the video for ‘Worship Medley’, a song on the last album (Chorus Leader) released by Kefee before her death, had also been released.

The more than eight minutes long video was shot in Hollywood, Los Angeles and Washington and concluded two days before the in-flight crisis that eventually led to Kefee’s death.

The video was directed by the trio of Kefee, Teddy and Promise Adeyemi.

NAN recalls that Kefee and Teddy completed a programme in video production at the Chicago Access Network TV in the first half of 2014.

Kefee was a popular pop-gospel artist who had been active in the entertainment industry for about ten years before her death.

She had an in-flight crisis in the US last year and passed away after two weeks of being in a coma.

She was born on February 5, 1980 in Sapele, Delta State and was known as the Branama Queen in reference to her debut hit track and album: Branama.

She also scored a hit with the track: Kokoroko, which featured Timaya, and had four albums to her credit: Branama’ (2003), Branama 2 (2005), A Piece of Me (2009) and Chorus Leader in 2013.

Kefee passed away on June 13, 2014 in the United States of America.
